Neogenyx Fuels Breaks Ground on RNG Facility at Nebraska Feedlot

Neogenyx Fuels has started construction on its first agricultural renewable natural gas facility at the Adams Land & Cattle feedlot in Broken Bow, Nebraska, as the project moves forward with plans to convert livestock manure into pipeline-quality renewable natural gas.

Ameresco announced the groundbreaking on September 1, 2026, following an August 26 ceremony at the future facility site that brought together state and federal officials, agricultural leaders, energy representatives and members of the local community.

The project is being developed by Ameresco through its subsidiary, Neogenyx Fuels, in partnership with Adams Land & Cattle. The facility will use livestock manure generated at the feedlot as its primary feedstock, linking agricultural operations with renewable fuel production infrastructure.

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen, U.S. Sen. Pete Ricketts, Neogenyx Fuels CEO Michael Bakas, Adams Land & Cattle CEO Abram Babcock and American Biogas Council Vice President of Policy Heather Dziedzic were among the speakers at the groundbreaking.

Following the ceremony, attendees toured the future facility site.

Eight anaerobic digesters planned

The Neogenyx Fuels-owned facility will use eight anaerobic digesters to process manure collected from the Adams Land & Cattle operation.

The digesters are designed to generate more than 4,400 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) of biogas. The project will then upgrade the biogas to pipeline-quality renewable natural gas for transportation and other energy applications.

Once operational, the facility is expected to produce approximately 1.2 million MMBtu of RNG annually.

The development also incorporates the reuse of materials generated during the digestion process. According to Ameresco, process byproducts will be reused onsite for livestock bedding and as agricultural fertilizer.

That approach allows the facility to integrate waste management, fuel production and agricultural applications within the same operation.

Project targets emissions reduction

Ameresco expects the RNG facility to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 63,700 metric tons per year.

The company equates that reduction to the amount of carbon dioxide sequestered by approximately 63,800 acres of U.S. forest annually.

The project also reflects a broader push to develop agricultural RNG facilities that can turn livestock waste into an energy resource while creating additional uses for materials produced during the process.

Neogenyx Fuels CEO Michael Bakas said the facility could eventually support bio-LNG production for global maritime markets, potentially connecting Nebraska’s agricultural sector with international demand for lower-carbon fuels.

Construction begins at Adams Land & Cattle

For Adams Land & Cattle, the project adds energy production to an existing livestock operation while creating a new pathway for managing manure generated at the feedlot.

Adams Land & Cattle CEO Abram Babcock said the partnership with Neogenyx Fuels will allow the company to convert livestock waste into pipeline-quality RNG while producing a more consistent fertilizer product for local agriculture.

Ameresco Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Leila Dillon said the groundbreaking demonstrates how agricultural operations can become part of a broader renewable energy infrastructure network.

The August 26 ceremony marks the start of construction on Neogenyx Fuels’ first agricultural RNG facility. The company has not disclosed an expected commercial operations date in the announcement.

The Nebraska project comes as other major U.S. energy developments move into construction, including the $3.7 billion Blue Point One low-carbon ammonia plant in Louisiana. CF Industries, JERA and Mitsui broke ground on the Modeste, Louisiana, project on August 26, with the facility designed to produce approximately 1.4 million metric tons of ammonia annually when it begins operations in 2029. Blue Point One is being developed to serve both traditional agricultural markets and emerging energy applications, creating another example of large-scale investment aimed at expanding lower-carbon fuel production in the U.S.
