An agreemnt has been signed for the development of a project to convert greenhouse gases into energy in Abu Dhabi . The agreement was signed between Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre (Tadweer) and KEO International consultants.

TADWEER is the agency in charge of controlling and coordinating waste management activities throughout the Emirate. The agency is also responsible for controlling and cordinating the policy, strategy and contractual systems. KEO on the other hand is a s a creative enterprise of planning, design, engineering and project management professionals.

KEO will provide a feasibility study and cover the financial, environmental, and technical aspects of the facilitys development and operation. The agreement for project to convert greenhouse gases into energy in Abu Dhabi will also include gas pumping tests, as well as drilling operations. Additionally, the agreement will include the quantities that are expected to be generated within 10 years.

Expectations for the project to convert greenhouse gases into energy in Abu Dhabi

Upon completion, the project will extract greenhouse gases from the Al Dhafra landfill and convert them into green energy. Currently, the landfill has undertaken remarkable environmental efforts. A total of 12, 542 tonnes of waste were extracted from the fill in 2021. These included cardboards, plastic waste, iron, aluminum, paper, and wood. The purpose of the extraction was to reuse and recycle the waste. 

The Director of the Project and Facilities Department at Tadweer spoke about the project. Abdul Mohsen Mubarak Al Kathiri said that the signing of the contract is a part of the firm’s efforts in converting waste into energy. Furthemore, he said that the project aims to contribute toward the development goals of Abu Dhabi, more especially the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.

The Director affirmed that through the consultancy agreement, they both look forward to implementing the project in adherence to the best practices and standards.
