Beijing-based China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) has won a $218m contract in the Dubai Islands bridge deal. The scope of the project entails constructing a bridge connecting the offshore Dubai Islands development with Bur Dubai. Moreover, the project is being jointly developed by Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority. Local developer Dubai Holding also plays a role in the project’s implementation. According to MEED, the deal was inked in the first week of this month, marking a significant endeavor. The two-way, 1650-meter-long bridge has been planned for several years.

It will have four lanes in each direction and a capacity of 16,000 vehicles an hour. The bridge will be built between the Infinity Bridge and Port Rashid. Furthermore, it is expected to stand 15.5 meters above the Dubai Creek waterline with a 75-meter-wide canal. The height is expected to allow tall ships to pass through easily. Completion of the project is scheduled for 2027.

This occurred when Nakheel released details of a new masterplan in the same year. The reclaimed islands were originally part of the Palm Deira project, partially completed in 2008 but was then put on halt. Dubai Islands entails five islands with a total area of 17 square kilometers. Initial designs of the area show that the building development plans are more low-rise than the earlier Deira Islands scheme. A golf course has also been added to the masterplan. The bridge is expected to be a vital link in ensuring accessibility and ease of movement to the islands.
