In Ghana, Borteyman Sports Complex construction works have recently been launched in a sod-cutting ceremony graced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The sports complex will be constructed and equipped with facilities in accordance with international standards capable of hosting any International competition, on a 100-acre piece of land in the Greater Accra Region..

Overview of the Borteyman Sports Complex facilities

The Borteyman Sports Complex planned facilities include a 1,000-seater capacity swimming pool complex with a 10-lane competition swimming pool and an eight-lane warm-up swimming pool, and a 1,000-seater multi-purpose sports hall for basketball, badminton, boxing table tennis, and weightlifting.

Other planned facilities are a 500-seater temporary dome for handball, volleyball, Judo, karate, and taekwondo, a five tennis court complex including a 1,000-seater center court, a six-lane warm-up athletics extract, a one FIFA standard football training field, six kilometers single lane road, and a three-kilometer double lane road.

University of Sports Development

According to President Akufo-Addo, the above-mentioned facilities are not the only ones set to be built at the Borteyman Sports Complex. Actually one of the major legacies of this project will be the start of a University for Sports Development, which upon completion will be the second of its kind in the African country and amongst the few in the entire world.

The University of Sports Development will include the construction of lecture halls, students’ hostels, lecturer bungalows and academic facilities.

The total investment for the project is approximately US$ 195M.
