A $20 million renovation project has begun for the new Grand Prairie cricket stadium in North Texas. Recently, the timeline was also announced by the Major League Cricket (MLC), confirming the stadium’s opening date of Spring 2023. Long before the renovations started, this stadium was known as the AirHogs Stadium and homebase of the baseball diamond team. It was built as a 15,000-seater stadium, but after the renovations are completed it will have a larger capacity.

According to the MLC, the newly converted Grand Prairie cricket stadium will be ready for matches by next summer. Going forward, the stadium would become the homebase of the U.S national cricket team and also host international matches. It will be the MLC’s first premier venue in the U.S. and will serve the league for over a decade. Design plans by Dallas-based HKS Architects will include a natural grass turf wicket and expandable seating for 15,000+ people.

Development plans for the Grand Prairie cricket stadium

Several improvements are currently in progress at the Grand Prairie cricket Stadium, which include upgrades to the 13 luxury suites and Hall of Fame. The Officer Club Rooms are also being refurbished, along with the installation of several premium seats around the field. In addition, a new training center will be built to serve as the home for the USA Cricket National Team. Plans also call for the renovation and reopening of the sports bar facility at the stadium.

During subsequent renovation phases, other upgrades will be made at the Grand Prairie cricket Stadium. Some of these upgrades will include adding training nets, batting lanes, two additional outside turf fields and so much more. After these renovations, the stadium is expected to meet the standards for hosting  ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024.

Sameet Mehta, MLC’s co-founder, said the league was committed to transforming the landscape and working alongside its long-term partner USA Cricket. Furthermore, he mentioned that the newly renovated cricket Stadium was listed among an array of venue developments within cricket-passionate communities. Mehta said they would work on their vision to rapidly develop cricket across the country with this infrastructure investment.
