US-based Turner has been appointed as the project manager for the 1,000-meter-plus world’s tallest Jeddah tower in Saudi Arabia. Turner was the project manager for the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which stands at 828 meters. It has been the world’s tallest building since 2010, but may be surpassed soon. The appointment comes amid other signs of clear progress on the Jeddah Tower. One of such progress is the concrete pouring works for the Jeddah Tower. The works began on 20th January, marking the official recommencement of construction works.
Furthermore, the project’s contractor, Saudi-based Binladin Group has received a payment of $190 million for work on the tower. Last year, the project development compant, Jeddah Economic Company, signed an estimated SR8bn for the project. Spanning for 42-months, the contract with local SBG aimed to resume construction on the tower. Afterwards, SBG began engaging with the supply chain to work on the project.

The Contractors Involved in the Implementation of the World’s Tallest Jeddah Tower
Apart from US-based Turner, other construction companies are also involved in the implementation of the world’s tallest Jeddah Tower. Firstly, SBG awarded Beijing-headquartered Jangho Group a facadee works contract. The contract entailed engineering design and technical services for the project’s structural glass and adhesive curtains. At this time, the superstructure was about a third complete with 63 floors out of the 157 total. Germany’s Bauer was involved in completing the tower’s piling work. The architect is US-based Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill.
On the other hand, the engineering consultant is Lebanon’s Dar Al-Handasah (Shair & Partners). Once completed, Jeddah Tower is expected to be the centerpiece of the Jeddah Economic City development. The first phase of the project which entails the main tower covers an area of 1.5 million square meters. The shareholders in JEC are Saudi’s Kingdom Holding Company at 40% stake. The other is Baksh Group with a 40% stake in the project. Lastly is Sharbatly Group with a 20% share in the project.
