FCI Camino LLC received a $69.06 million construction loan from PNC Bank to begin construction of 350 apartments on Camino square in Boca Raton, which consists of two eight-story buildings that will provide 350 new apartments in Boca Raton’s downtown.

The project involving construction of 350 apartments on Camino square in Boca Raton is located at 171 West Camino Real from New Hyde Park, on the corner of the Florida East Coast Railway tracks, just off Dixie Highway next to the Boca Express Train Museum, and the developer acquired a land lease on this 9.1 acres site, with the Miami-based, MSA Architects in charge of the design-build.

These Camino Square buildings are intended to replace the defunct Winn-Dixie grocery store, at 171 W. Camino Real and the development plans show that one of the two eight-story buildings will contain 199 apartments and the second building will hold 151 units, with their apartment sizes ranging from 700 to 1,500 square feet, and consisting of several mixed unit options which include,113 one-bedroom units, 192 two-bedroom units, and 45 three-bedroom units. It also offers 37,399 square feet of new retail, 769 parking spaces and a pool courtyard, and a public dog park.

The retail portion of the site still remains under Kimco and will front West Camino Real and Southwest Third Avenue. Kimco’s attorney, Peter Flint, spoke on the positive impact the Camino square buildings could have on Kimco. According to Flint, the land was purchased by Kimco in 1985, but unfortunately it hasn’t been able to retain retail tenants in recent years. He also mentioned that having apartments nearby would boost the plaza’s retail prospects

An urban planning professor at Florida Atlantic University, John Renne also spoke in support of the project. He said that the mixed-use apartments would encourage people to walk from the 350-unit apartment buildings to the stores nearby, serving to keep cars off the crowded roads.

Renee also stated, “(FAU students) would love to live in a place like this where you can walk to lots of amenities.”

  1. Does anyone know what the price range will be? Hoping not for college students. They destroyed the Camino apartments across the tracks. Will not live in the same building with them. No respect for property.

  2. ARE THE UNITS DESIGNATED FOR SENIORS ?
OR IS THIS TARGETED FOR STUDENTS
I’M INTERESTED IN RENTING A UNIT.
BOCA RESIDENT OVER 21 YEARS , WANT TO CONTINUE MY STAY HERE.
