The purported customer of the $50bn “Project Tembo” data center near Cheyenne, Wyoming has been revealed as Google. The firm has been revealed as the company behind the campus after speculations on the project’s customer. However, previously known as “Project Jade” the project has now been renamed to “Project Tembo”. The campus will be developed on a 716-acre parcel located eight miles south of Cheyenne in the Switchgrass Industrial Park.

Furthermore, the application suggests that four data halls will be built. The plans also include an office hub, logistics, and network buildings. Construction is slated to be completed by 2031. Project Jade was previously being developed by Crusoe. At the time, it was said to be a 1.8GW campus that could scale to 10GW. However in June, Crusoe said it had paused work on the site “at the request of our customer.”

Google’s application states that, in addition to the BYOP solution, it will be using energy resources from Black Hills Energy, a local utility provider. Cheyenne is the capital city of Wyoming and is home to several large projects. Microsoft broke ground on a campus in Cheyenne in August 2025, and is seeking to purchase a further 3,200 acres of land. Meta also has a large-scale data center campus in the area. And, in October 2025, Related Digital broke ground on a $1.2bn data center project for CoreWeave. The latest data center project by Google adds on to this list.
