As of May 2026, the 1,425-metre Bur Dubai to Dubai Islands bridge is actively under construction, confirmed by the RTA as part of its latest corridor progress briefings. The project is proceeding in parallel with the 80% complete Al Khaleej Street Tunnel, with both components targeting delivery before the end of 2026. The RTA also confirmed the bridge is part of the broader AED 6 billion traffic solutions agreement between RTA and Dubai Holding, which will upgrade infrastructure across 15 major communities including Jumeirah Village Triangle, Al Furjan, Business Bay and Palm Jumeirah.
Bridge Construction Confirmed Underway as RTA Confirms 2026 Delivery Target
In May 2025, the Roads and Transport Authority confirmed that all phases of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project on the Bur Dubai side had been completed, with the inauguration of the fifth and final bridge at the Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mina Street intersection. This milestone reduced travel times along that segment from 80 minutes to 12 minutes and set the stage for the creek crossing bridge to proceed as the next major phase. Progress on the corridor’s underground works has also accelerated, with the Al Shindagha Street Tunnel reaching 80% completion as round-the-clock construction teams push toward a year-end handover target.

Reported 6th April 2025: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Holding are progressing the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project after awarding AED 786 million ($214 million) contract for the 8-lane Dubai Island-Bur Dubai bridge. The bridge stretching from Dubai Islands to Bur Dubai will span 1.425 km, with 4 lanes going both ways.
The RTA contract award comes in support of the UAE’s initiative to develop Dubai’s road network and mobility infrastructure. The AED 786M contract for the Dubai Island-Bur Dubai 8-lane bridge will also support the ongoing Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project. The project’s phase 4 was at 45% completion as of mid-2024. Also of benefit will be Dubai’s geared-up ability to better handle its rapid urban growth. This will invariably mean better traffic flow and easing of movement for the city’s, and Emirates, expanding demography.

Also included in the bridge construction plans is the 2km surface road that will connect the bridge to the Dubai Island and Bur Dubai areas. The Dubai Island-Bur Dubai 8-lane bridge will also have cycling and pedestrian tracks, and elevators. The elevators will facilitate pedestrian and cyclist movements. Also, the standard divided/ 8-lane bridge will have a 384,000 vehicle capacity in a day.
Another key feature of the bridge over the Dubai Creek is the 75 meter wide navigation channel that will facilitate the passage of water vessels. This width will be supplemented by a 18.5 meters elevation.
Alongside being built over the Dubai Creek in the area between Infinity Bridge and Port Rashid Development area, it will also be the second contract in the construction of Dubai Island’s entry and exit points. The new bridge will join a 3-lane bridge and two 2-lane bridges connecting the Al Khaleej Street to the island to and from the north and south. The other three bridges span 1.6 kilometers and were completed in 2020.

Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project
This visionary 15 intersection project covering more than 13 kilometers will serve the Dubai Islands, Bur Dubai and Deira areas among others. It is being constructed in 5 phases and is currently in phase 4. Additionally, the fourth phase costs AED 800 million.
With the project’s fourth phase aiming for completion, it will get a massive progress boost from the 8-lane Dubai Island-Bur Dubai bridge being overseen by RTA and Dubai Holding for AED 786 million.
