The Misfah Independent Power Project is a 1,600 megawatt combined-cycle gas plant located in Wilayat Bousher, Muscat Governorate, Oman, and has now progressed well beyond the 12-bidder shortlist stage previously covered. Doosan Enerbility, working in consortium with SEPCO-3, signed a 928.14 billion won (about $683 million) EPC contract with Jabel Power SAOC on August 21, 2026, with construction scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026 and completion expected in April 2029.
Misfah’s Contract Award Brings a Fuller Picture Into View
The developer competition that Construction Review followed among 12 global and regional bidders ultimately resulted in a consortium comprising Korea Western Power, Nebras Power, Etihad Water and Electricity, and Bahwan Infrastructure Services, with Nama Power & Water Procurement Company serving as the offtaker. Siemens Energy will provide six hydrogen co-firing capable gas turbines and generators under a 20-year service agreement, while the sister Duqm plant has been awarded to the same EPC consortium, bringing the combined program capacity to roughly 2,600 megawatts. Reported 5th April 2025: Nama Power & Water Procurement Company acquired bids for Oman’s 2.4 GW power project from 12 global and local developers. They include the Duqm IPP in Al Wusta and the Misfah IPP in Muscat. The statement of qualifications was provided by leading world players such as Korea Western Power and Samsung C&T Corporation. Other international bidders for the projects are Shenzhen Energy Group, Sembcorp Utilities, Reliance Power, Sumitomo, and Marubeni Corporation. In addition, well-established regional players have also entered the bidding process for the two projects.
Some of these are Al Ghanim International, Nebras Power, and Acwa Power Company. Etihad Water and Electricity Company and Al Jomaih Energy & Water Company also placed bids. The two projects will incorporate combined cycle gas turbines. They will cumulatively have a combined capacity of 2,400 megawatts. The 2.4 GW Oman Power Project will be built in collaboration with the private sector. It reflects the growing demand for power and economic growth across Oman.
