Updated October 9, 2025: Finnish-based firm Kone has been awarded a project subcontract on the world’s tallest tower in Saudi Arabia, Jeddah tower. The scope of implementation entails the installation of escalators for the tower. Moreover, it includes a two-year maintenance for 67 elevators and escalators including 29 Kone MiniSpace elevators. These elevators have a speed of upto 10m/s. It also entails seven Kone MiniSpace DoubleDeck elevators and two Kone JumpLift construction time elevators. Additionally, the elevator order entails 21 Kone MonoSpace elevators.
Eight Kone TravelMaster 110 Escalators and Kone Destination Control Systems are also part of the contract. However, the firm did not disclose the contract value. In January, the concrete pouring works for Jeddah Tower began. The move marked the official commencement of construction on what will be the world’s tallest tower upon completion. The local Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) is undertaking the construction work. In October, it was awarded an estimated SR8bn ($2.1bn) contract to complete the remaining works. Saudi Arabia is taking the challenge of having the world’s tallest skyscraper in the Kingdom head on. The Kingdom is working on the 2km Riyadh skyscraper which awarded Foster + Partners the project’s design contract.
State of Affairs Regarding the Jeddah Tower as the World’s Tallest
Once complete, the Jeddah Tower will surpass the current world’s tallest tower by more than 172 meters. The current tallest, Burj Khalifa tower stands at 828 meters and has been the world’s tallest since 2009. In terms of progress, the Jeddah Tower’s superstructure is about one-third complete. Moreover, it already has 63 of the 157 floors completed. In the early and mid-2010s, SBG was the main contractor on the project. Germany’s Bauer completed the tower’s piling work. The architect is US-based Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill, and the engineering consultant is Lebanon’s Dar Al-Handasah (Shair & Partners). Jeddah Tower is the centrepiece of the Jeddah Economic City development. The project’s first phase, which includes the main tower, covers an area of 1.5 million square metres.
US-based Turner has been appointed as the project manager for the 1,000-meter-plus world’s tallest Jeddah tower in Saudi Arabia. Turner was the project manager for the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which stands at 828 meters. It has been the world’s tallest building since 2010, but may be surpassed soon. The appointment comes amid other signs of clear progress on the Jeddah Tower. One of such progress is the concrete pouring works for the Jeddah Tower. The works began on 20th January, marking the official recommencement of construction works.
Furthermore, the project’s contractor, Saudi-based Binladin Group has received a payment of $190 million for work on the tower. Last year, the project development compant, Jeddah Economic Company, signed an estimated SR8bn for the project. Spanning for 42-months, the contract with local SBG aimed to resume construction on the tower. Afterwards, SBG began engaging with the supply chain to work on the project.

The Contractors Involved in the Implementation of the World’s Tallest Jeddah Tower
Apart from US-based Turner, other construction companies are also involved in the implementation of the Jeddah Tower. Firstly, SBG awarded Beijing-headquartered Jangho Group a facadee works contract. The contract also entailed engineering design and technical services for the project’s structural glass and adhesive curtains. At this time, the superstructure was about a third complete with 63 floors out of the 157 total. Germany’s Bauer was involved in completing the tower’s piling work. The architect is US-based Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill.

On the other hand, the engineering consultant is Lebanon’s Dar Al-Handasah (Shair & Partners). Once completed, Jeddah Tower is expected to be the centerpiece of the Jeddah Economic City development. The first phase of the project which entails the main tower covers an area of 1.5 million square meters. The shareholders in JEC are Saudi’s Kingdom Holding Company at 40% stake. The other is Baksh Group with a 40% stake in the project. Lastly is Sharbatly Group with a 20% share in the project.
