The C Concourse Expansion is a $399 million concourse renovation at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in SeaTac, Washington, and it opened to travelers on June 11, 2026, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches held in Seattle. The finished building expanded the original 81,000 square foot concourse to roughly 229,500 square feet across four new floors, and the Port now says it is targeting LEED Platinum certification, a higher standard than the project’s 2023 budget approval had indicated.

C Concourse Expansion Frees Attention for the Next Legacy Concourse

With the C Concourse Expansion finished, the Port of Seattle has turned its attention to the next legacy concourse in line under Upgrade SEA, the $2.5 billion S Concourse Evolution now moving through design and early construction with Hensel Phelps and AECOM at the helm. That project carries forward the same seismic and passenger amenity priorities that shaped C Concourse, on a considerably larger and costlier scale.

Reported 29th September 2023: The Port of Seattle Commission authorised a roughly $400 million expansion project cost to improve travellers’ experiences and raise income at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Tuesday. Concourse C Building Expansion (CCE) will add four storeys between Concourses C and D on the airport’s east side.

On September 26, the commission authorised an extra $213 million in funding for the concourse extension project. This was in addition to the $185.1 million previously granted. The commission authorised the budget amount of $399 million with a 5-0 majority.

“We’re going to add four new floors to the space here, growing up because we can’t, with our space, grow out,” said Perry Cooper, public relations manager for the Port of Seattle.

According to the project letter, the project was created in response to the airport’s demand for extra eating and retail capacity, office space, and premium lounge space. Additionally, new toilets, an interfaith prayer and meditation space, a nursing room, an outdoor public viewpoint, and other facilities will be incorporated into the extension.

According to the project website, the addition features a more than 20,000 square foot Alaska Airlines club.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport expansion key dates

The expansion project is scheduled to begin in early 2024, with a completion date of mid-2026. This is just in time for the FIFE World Cup events in Seattle.

In early 2024, the north portion of the C Concourse will be closed. This project is part of the Upgrade SEA effort, which aims to modernise the airport to satisfy rising traveller demand. The CCE is one of the most environmentally friendly projects and will be totally electric.

The 226,530-square-foot area’s aims with the extension are to improve airport income through eating and retail services. Furhtermore, it will expand leasable office space, and add lounge capacity.
