Global construction and project development firm Skanska has expanded its footprint in the United States. This comes after the firm inked a $238 million (SEK 2.2 billion) contract with an existing client. The new deal will finance the development of a major data center facility in Virginia. Virginia stands as one of the world’s primary hubs for digital infrastructure. Furthermore, the contract value will be officially booked under Skanska’s U.S. order bookings for the third quarter of 2026.

Project Scope and Facility Specifications

Additionally, the project spans 22,000 square meters (237,000 square feet).  It represents the second building constructed on the client’s expanding technology campus.

Also, upon completion, the state-of-the-art facility will house five specialized data halls designed to handle high-density computing loads. Skanska’s construction scope extends beyond the facility itself. It encompasses comprehensive site preparations, heavy earthworks, and complex underground site utilities essential to support power and cooling infrastructure.

Timeline and Operational Schedule

Construction is scheduled to begin in August 2026. The final project completion is slated for May 2028. This nearly two-year construction timeline showcases the intensive engineering required to deliver modern, resilient mission-critical infrastructure in Virginia’s rapidly growing cloud and AI infrastructure market.
