The United States Government has signed an agreement worth more than Ksh325 million (US$3.7 million) with the Kenya Ports Authority. The fund will see major improvements and expansion of facilities at, Mombasa Port, East Africa’s premiere port.

The funds that will be channeled through the United States Agency for International Development and TradeMark East Africa will be used to expand existing access roads to the port and have new ones built.

They will also improve software, the online Simba Tax system and the single customs systems among other projects. The signing ceremony was held at KPA’s conference hall. Other projects to benefit from the funds include upgrading of berths 1 to 14, a review of the KPA Act and the modernization of cargo yards.
