OCI Energy, Arava Power Sign Deal for 670 MW La Salle Solar Project in Texas

A 670 MWdc utility-scale solar project planned in La Salle County has moved forward after a new ownership and development agreement was signed for the project, which is expected to begin operations in 2028.

The La Salle Solar project will be jointly developed by OCI Energy and Arava Power. Under a Membership Interest Purchase Agreement that gives Arava Power a 50% ownership stake in the development.

The companies will jointly finance, construct, own and operate the solar facility in South Texas. Construction will begin before the end of the year.

At 670 MWdc, La Salle Solar will become the largest single-site solar project completed through the partnership between the two companies. The development also marks their third collaboration in the Texas renewable energy market.

Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough electricity to supply approximately 100,000 homes. Adding new generation capacity to a Texas power market that continues to see rising electricity demand from population growth, industrial activity and expanding energy-intensive industries.

OCI Energy President Sabah Bayatli said the project reflects the company’s long-term development strategy in Texas and its focus on delivering large-scale utility solar projects.

Arava Power CEO Ilan Zidkony said the company expects to break ground on the project later this year as it continues expanding its presence in the U.S. renewable energy sector.

South Texas has emerged as one of the country’s active solar development regions because of strong solar resources, available land and access to transmission infrastructure supporting utility-scale energy projects.

While the La Salle Solar Project represents one of the largest planned utility-scale solar developments in South Texas, other projects such as El Patrimonio in Bexar County highlight continued mid-scale expansion across the state.
