Ground Broken on El Patrimonio Solar Project in Bexar County, Texas

Construction has begun on the El Patrimonio solar project in Bexar County following a groundbreaking ceremony attended by project leaders, utility representatives and local officials.

The solar facility is expected to be completed in 2027 and will supply electricity to approximately 37,000 households once operational, while also reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 193 tons annually.

The project brings together Ashtrom Renewable Energy, CPS Energy, and SOLV Energy, along with support from local government officials in Bexar County and the City of San Antonio.

El Patrimonio began construction in 2025, marking one of the latest utility-scale solar developments in the region as Texas continues to expand its renewable energy capacity.

CPS Energy will purchase about 70% of the electricity generated under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement and will also receive renewable energy credits. The remaining electricity will be sold into the Texas power market.

CPS Energy Chief Operating Officer Frank Almaraz said the project supports the utility’s broader generation strategy as it works to meet rising demand in the San Antonio region.

Ashtrom Renewable Energy CEO Yitsik Mermelstein described the project as a milestone in the company’s efforts to expand its renewable energy footprint in the United States.

SOLV Energy CEO George Hershman said the company will oversee construction and delivery of the project, emphasizing safe and efficient execution through to operations.

The El Patrimonio solar project joins a growing pipeline of utility-scale solar developments in Texas, including the 670 MW La Salle Solar Project in South Texas, which recently advanced following a new ownership agreement.
