The foundation stone for Opal Bio Pharma (OBP)‘s Omani Vaccine Manufacturing Factory project has been laid. Right within the Khazaen Economic City, the development will cost approximately OMR60 million. In total, it spans across an area of 37,000 square meters, with an implementation timeline of 2 years.

In a nutshell, the facility strives to reduce dependence on imports, especially in terms of pandemics and crises. Therefore, it targets to contribute towards overall reliance on locally produced vaccines. Additionally, the project strives to enhance national aspirations in achieving reliable, drug security.

The Omani Vaccine Manufacturing Factory Project Kick-Off

According to a press release statement, the Omani Vaccine Manufacturing Factory project strives to commence production during the last quarter of 2024. As a whole, the vaccine factory will significantly support Oman’s vision of achieving multi-sectoral economic diversification. Moreover, the Ministry of Health stated that it will place the region on the global map of complex medicine production.

While speaking about the project, the Chairman of the board of directors of OBP said that it is a first of its kind, not just in the country, but also, throughout the Middle East. On the other hand, the CEO of Khazaen Economic City also spoke about the project. Eng. Salim al Dhahli noted that it will target both local as well as foreign markets. Moreover, Salim added that the Omani Vaccine Manufacturing Factory will spearhead additional pharmaceutical developments within the city. These will include a total of four other projects with investments of OMR 44 million, approximately.

Taking it a step further, the multi-million development will provide an extensive and distinguished hub. Its purpose will serve pharmaceutical research that’ll accommodate the output of medical universities. Additionally, it will offer a wide array of job opportunities, especially to Omani youth with various academic qualifications.
