RIU Plaza, Chicago’s newest hotel, a four-star, 28-story skyscraper located off Michigan Avenue in the Streeterville neighbourhood, has been completed by general contractor W.E. O’Neil Construction. The Prime Group created the site, which will be one of just a few in the United States for the Spanish hotel brand RIU Hotels & Resorts.
W.E. O’Neil organised a topping-out celebration to commemorate this construction milestone with the ownership team, design team, and trade partners.
The base of the skyscraper will rise 345 feet and cover two stories, with 23 floors of guest rooms above. The resort will contain 390 guestrooms, a sky bar, one level below grade. Furthermore, a ground-level bar at the southeast corner of the tower base, catering to both business and leisure customers.
More on the RIU Plaza in Chicago
The classically inspired edifice, designed by famous architect Lucien LaGrange, stands out among Chicago’s modern construction. Rather of the more common brick or glass curtain wall façades, its unusual material palette incorporates a combination of painted architectural concrete and aluminum-framed windows. Additionally, the building’s contemporary and practical interior will be enhanced by this traditional Chicago School architectural style façade.
RIU has inaugurated the Riu Plaza Manhattan Times Square hotel, bringing the total number of Riu Plaza hotels to nine. These hotels can be found in some of the world’s most important and historic cities. These include the Hotel Riu Plaza Espaa in Madrid, the Hotel Riu Plaza Panama in Panama City, the Hotel Riu Plaza Guadalajara in Mexico, the Hotel Riu Plaza Berlin in the German capital, the Hotel Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin in the Irish capital, the Hotel Riu Plaza Miami Beach in Miami, the Hotel Riu Plaza Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, and the Hotel Riu Plaza New York Times Square and Hotel Riu Plaza Manhattan Times Square, both in New York.
