A new submission deadline for prequalification statements has been set for contractors bidding to win the tender for the Dubai Gold Line Metro project. Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has set a new deadline of October 9. This project comes in as RTA pushes to improve transport infrastructure in Dubai with the development of roads and rail.
The initial deadline for submission was August 17. Later on, it got pushed out to September 7. Currently, it has been extended once again now until October.
The RTA issued the request prequalification notice in June, and that followed an earlier invitation in May for contractors to express interest in the project.
That notice sparked a scramble amongst major construction players who hoped to land the lucrative contract. The project costs around $9.2 billion (AED34 billion).
Timeline
The Gold Line was officially announced in April, and it will increase the network length of the Dubai Metro by 35 per cent.
Moreover, upon completion in September 2032, the Gold Line will cover more than 42km in track, and will serve 18 stations.
Additionally, the Gold Line, unlike the existing Dubai Metro lines, will be a fully underground network.
It will pass through 15 different areas in Dubai, which will serve around 1.5 million residents.
The Gold Line will commence services in Bur Dubai and will end in the leafy suburbs of Jumeriah Golf Estates.

It will also provide connectivity to over 55 under-construction real estate development projects.
Scope of Work
The contractors who win the tender will oversee and execute the design and build of all civil works, electromechanical equipment, rolling stock and rail systems.
Also, the selected contractor will assist in the systems maintenance and operations during an initial three-year period.
Aecom Awarded Consultancy Services Role
Furthermore, in October 2025, US engineering firm Aecom were hired to provide consultancy services on the Gold Line project.
The first phase of the Gold Line covers concept design, stage two will cover preliminary design, and stage three covers the preparation of tender documents.
Lastly, stage four will trigger construction supervision, and stage five covers the defects and liability period.
