Ascension Saint Thomas Breaks Ground on New Full-Service Hospital and Health Campus in Clarksville

New facility aims to expand healthcare capacity in one of Tennessee’s fastest-growing regions.

Ascension Saint Thomas has broken ground on a $148.5 million hospital and healthcare campus in Clarksville, launching a major project intended to expand medical services and support the rapidly growing population of Montgomery County.

Healthcare leaders, local officials, physicians and community partners gathered Tuesday for the groundbreaking ceremony, marking the start of construction on the 96-acre development near the intersection of Highway 76 and Interstate 24.

The project will be anchored by a new full-service hospital that will initially open with 44 inpatient beds. The facility has been designed with future growth in mind. And can expand to accommodate up to 132 beds as demand increases.

Broad Range of Medical Services Planned

According to project details, the hospital will offer emergency care, inpatient surgical services, cardiology, neurosciences, women’s health, neonatal intensive care, oncology and orthopaedics.

The wider healthcare campus is planned as an integrated medical hub, bringing together physician practices, specialty care providers, outpatient services and rehabilitation facilities in a single location.

Partners expected to operate on the campus include Tennessee Oncology, Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance, Ascension Saint Thomas Heart and Howell Allen Clinic. An inpatient rehabilitation hospital will also be developed in partnership with Lifepoint Health.

In addition, Montgomery County is collaborating with the project through a public-private partnership that will establish a new ambulance and emergency medical services station on the campus.

Investment Supports Regional Growth

The development comes as Clarksville and Montgomery County continue to experience significant population and economic growth, increasing demand for healthcare infrastructure and services.

Local officials said the project will improve access to care for residents while helping position the region for future expansion.

Construction is expected to begin immediately following the groundbreaking, with additional details regarding timelines and service openings to be announced as the project advances.

Economic Impact

Beyond healthcare access, the development is expected to generate substantial economic benefits for the region.

Project estimates indicate the hospital will create approximately 250 jobs once operational. The broader economic impact is projected at roughly $316 million annually. While supporting more than 1,300 direct and indirect jobs across the regional economy.

Ascension Saint Thomas has maintained a presence in the Clarksville area since opening its first local facility in 2005 and currently operates 17 care locations throughout Montgomery County.

Additionally, Clarksville project is one of several major hospital developments now under construction nationwide, alongside HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay, where demolition has begun on the North Building as part of a $270 million campus upgrade.
