The I‑30 Canyon Corridor Improvement Project in Dallas is a major freeway reconstruction effort led by Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc. under contract with Texas Department of Transportation. Valued at approximately $889 million, the project focuses on widening a 2.3-mile section of Interstate 30 from I‑35E to I‑45. The work includes doubling general-purpose lanes from six to twelve, constructing nine new bridges and crossings, and enhancing connectivity to areas like Southern Gateway and The Horseshoe. Preconstruction began in 2025, and full construction ramped up in early 2026, with weekend full closures and lane re-openings demonstrating active progress.
This project highlights Balfour Beatty’s growing portfolio of U.S. highway projects, following successful deliveries in other states. Notably, the Fayetteville Outer Loop and Havelock Bypass in North Carolina, also constructed by Balfour Beatty, improved regional mobility and freight operations, demonstrating consistent execution on complex roadway corridors.
Current Project Update
As of March 2026, the I‑30 Canyon project remains under construction, with ongoing preconstruction and early-stage works fully active. Weekend lane closures have facilitated demolition and new bridge construction, with lanes reopening on schedule. The five-year plan anticipates full completion between late 2030 and early 2031, depending on weather and construction progress. Traffic impacts continue through downtown Dallas, with coordination by Texas Department of Transport (TxDOT) ensuring safety and timely work. Overall, the project is advancing steadily, marking a major investment in regional transportation capacity and congestion relief.

Continuing a Strong Track Record
This marks another major transportation project in Texas for Balfour Beatty. In November 2024, the company secured a $746 million (£575 million) contract to upgrade Interstate 35 through Austin.
In a statement the company, ‘Our decades of experience executing complex roadway projects through Dallas and deep understanding of the region’s infrastructure uniquely equip us to deliver improvements that reduce congestion, strengthen connections, and drive long-term economic growth.’
The I-30 reconstruction project contract aligns with Balfour Beatty’s strategic procurement approach to project selection—focusing on those markets where it has built expertise, high-performing local teams, and established relationships with supply chain partners.
Preconstruction will begin in 2026 with the entire project taking five years.
Additionally, Interstate 30 is a major component of the transportation network in Dallas and extends from Fort Worth to Little Rock, Arkansas. It is a primary highway serving as a major corridor between major cities in North Texas and into the southeastern United States.
