By 2023, the Bengaluru-Mysuru Express Corridor sets to open, and by the first week of March, will most likely be inaugurated by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. This revelation comes approximately 8 years since planes for the project were announced.

Back in 2014, the Union Ministry of Surface Transport announced that some roads across India, including the Bengaluru-Mysuru road, would be upgraded to National Highways. The project would be carried out by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

NHAI is an autonomous agency of the government of India. Since 1995, the agency has been responsible for the management of a network of well over 50,000 kilometers of National Highways, out of a total of 1,32,499 kilometers in India.

Bengaluru-Mysuru Express Corridor project to cut travel time by up to 90 minutes

The Bengaluru-Mysuru road is being converted into 10 lanes road, including a six-lane expressway.

The 117-kilometer stretch sits right between the Ring Road Junction in Mysuru and the NICE entrance in Bengaluru. In total the entire distance between Mysuru and the state capital is approximately 140 kilometers apart.

Upon completion, it is expected to cut travel time by up to approximately 90 minutes from the current average of three hours. The travel route will include two toll gates and will charge Rs 200 to Rs 250 at each toll.

Earlier this year, the Union Minister for Roads and Highways spoke about the project. Nitin Gadkari said that the Rs 81.72 billion Bengaluru-Mysuru Express Corridor project’s progress had marked a record speed. The Union minister noted that the project would have been complete by October. However, various interruptions delaying work, such as heavy rains, resulted in delays affecting the project’s development.

Nevertheless, the project is back on track and will feature 44 minor bridges alongside four rail over-bridges. Sources within the state government revealed that the project also serves as a response to villagers in a few places, demanding the construction of underpasses and bridges.
