The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially opened the floor, inviting bids for the Six-Lane Greenfield Ring Road project (Package-I Sachend-Mandhana Road). The Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Highway has major economic implications, especially since it will serve key areas. One of which includes the mineral-producing regions of Eastern India

Furthermore, the Six-Lane Greenfield Ring Road Project will also connect the two cultural capitals of the country, Kolkata and Varanasi. Bids for the project are expected to be submitted on or before the 4th of January 2023.

The Six-Lane Greenfield Ring Road to deliver high-speed connectivity upon completion 

Upon completion, the Six-Lane Greenfield Ring Road project will feature a 610-kilometer lane corridor. Additionally, the access-controlled expressway will also feature a route alignment that will link Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. This covers a total distance of 22 kilometers and 159 kilometers in Bihar.

Furthermore, it will also connect Ranchi in Jharkhand, covering a total distance of 187 kilometers. Lastly, the mega expressway will connect Kolkata with the West Bengal region, covering a total distance of 242 kilometers. The project plans to not just provide connectivity, but rather high-speed connectivity to road users especially, in the eastern and northern regions of India.

As of now, it takes at least, about 12 to 13 hours to cover the 644 kilometers distance between Varanasi and Kolkata.  Especially when plying the NH-2 (Golden Quadrilateral Road). However, upon completion, the Six-Lane Greenfield Ring Road, which will run parallel to NH-2, will reduce travel time by 7 to 8 hours. Additionally, the project will allow for higher speed limits.

In total, the project’s value is approximately Rs 988.24 crore, Meanwhile, the total job work value of the project is said to be approximately Rs 846.33 crore. Upon official awarding of the project’s contract, the successful bidder will have to complete all development works within 30 months.
