The Jeddah Central Stadium Project in Saudi Arabia continues to make significant progress as construction advances within the wider Jeddah Central development. Since the main construction contract was awarded in early 2024, structural works have accelerated, with the stadium emerging as one of the Kingdom’s flagship sports infrastructure projects ahead of the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

Recent site inspections by the Ministry of Sport confirmed continued progress on construction and coordination activities, while the project remains on schedule for completion as part of the first phase of the Jeddah Central masterplan by the end of 2027.

The stadium forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 strategy to develop world-class sporting infrastructure and transform Jeddah into an international tourism, entertainment, and sporting destination.

As construction progresses, the project continues to support preparations for hosting matches during the 2034 FIFA World Cup while providing a long-term home for domestic football and other international sporting events.

A related development also highlights Saudi Arabia’s expanding sports infrastructure ambitions. The Kingdom has partnered with Pakistan to develop the Saudi International Cricket Stadium in Jeddah, demonstrating a broader strategy to diversify sporting facilities beyond football and position the city as a regional hub for multiple international sports.

Jeddah Central Stadium Project construction reaches advanced stage

Construction officially commenced in February 2024 after Jeddah Central Development Company awarded the estimated SR6.7 billion (approximately $1.8 billion) stadium contract to a consortium comprising China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) and Sama Construction for Contracting.

Since then, structural works have advanced steadily across the waterfront site. In January 2026, officials from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Sport conducted an on-site inspection alongside Jeddah Central Development Company to review construction progress and technical coordination for the future FIFA World Cup venue.

The stadium will accommodate approximately 45,800 spectators and incorporates a design inspired by the historic Al-Balad district. Its features include a retractable roof, advanced cooling technologies, premium hospitality facilities, modern media infrastructure, and landscaped public spaces surrounding the venue.

Moreover, the project remains one of the signature landmarks within the $20 billion Jeddah Central waterfront redevelopment, which also includes an opera house, museum, oceanarium, marina, hotels, residential districts, and public beaches.

Jeddah Central Stadium Project strengthens Saudi sporting ambitions

Beyond hosting FIFA World Cup matches in 2034, the stadium will become a permanent venue for domestic football competitions and major entertainment events.

Furthermore, the development supports Saudi Arabia’s objective of expanding tourism, attracting private investment, and improving urban quality of life through integrated mixed-use developments.

The project also reflects the Kingdom’s growing investment across multiple sports. For example, Saudi Arabia recently announced plans to develop the Saudi International Cricket Stadium in Jeddah through a partnership with the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation. That initiative further strengthens Jeddah’s emergence as a destination for international sporting events beyond football.

With major structural works continuing throughout 2026, the Jeddah Central Stadium Project remains one of Saudi Arabia’s most significant sports construction developments and a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s long-term Vision 2030 transformation.
