A pact for the construction of the Sur Industrial City Rubber Powder Production Plant in Oman has been signed. The pact was signed by Sur Industrial City, and Al Fairuz Projects and Investments.

At a cost of US$ 216 million, the facility will be built on a total area of 230,000 meters squared. The site will be located at the Sur Industrial City in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

The Sur Industrial City Rubber Powder Production Plant will feature tyre recycling technologies. Most impressively, the plant will embrace eco-friendly methods of production. It will extract carbon and biofuel through the use of environmentally friendly methods instead of harmful tyre burning. 

Construction of the plant is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Significance of the Sur Industrial City Rubber Powder Production Plant

The plant is projected to be beneficial to Oman. This is especially true for the manufacturing facilities in the country that use carbon and biofuel. The project is also projected to generate well about 212 job opportunities. 75% of these job opportunities will be for Omani citizens.

The Sur Industrial City Rubber Powder Production Plant will also contribute to Sur Industrial City‘s intention to be a focal point for specialized industrial sectors. These sectors include precision manufacturing and nanotechnology as well as more traditional Omani industries of petrochemicals and mining.

Sur industrial city is best known for its booming industrial activities such as shipbuilding and maritime transport. Currently, the city boasts 127 industrial projects. In just 2020, the total volume of investments in the city amounted to 1.5 billion Omani Riyals.
