Officially appointed, Willmott Dixon will be the main contractor on a £60m Rochdale town project to construct 242 new for rent apartments and Hampton by Hilton hotel. The contractor will start main construction on the upperbanks site in few days to come. Recently, Willmott Dixon was tasked in construction of the neighbouring shopping and leisure scheme, Rochdale Riverside. Their local spending amounting to 40% is committed within a 20 mile radius of the Upperbanks site, while 75% within 40 miles.

The £60m Rochdale town project was awarded £20m external funding by Future High streets Fund from the government and the Brownfield Development Fund from Greater Manchester’s Combined Authority.The appointment of Willmott Dixon is significant step forward for the fantastic project,accelerating brownfield site, and developing a brand new housing and leisure offer. This was revealed by cabinet member for economy and communications, Councillor John Blundell. He added that Willmott Dixon is a company recognized and trusted, which has earlier develop the Rochdale Riverside retail and leisure project.

“The £60m Rochdale town project will be developed for Rochdale residents by Rochdale residents, and work with the local supply chain partners to offer sustainable employment opportunities and a lasting positive legacy in the community. The local pride in Rochdale Riverside and the accelerating level of inward investment from the exciting developments like Upperbanks, make it a blueprint for significant town centre regeneration in the UK.” Construction is expected to complete in early 2024.
