The 128MW Tanay wind farm project in Rizal Province, Philippines, developed by Alternergy Holdings Corporation, is progressing toward commissioning in 2026 as part of the country’s accelerating renewable energy buildout under the Green Energy Auction program. Located in Tanay/Antipolo in Luzon, the project will deploy 16 next-generation 8MW wind turbines. These are the largest onshore units in the Philippines, hence marking a significant scale-up from earlier projects in the region. Backed by approximately PHP8 billion in financing and supported by new transmission infrastructure approvals, the wind farm is also expected to strengthen grid reliability in Luzon while contributing to national targets of increasing renewable energy share to 35% by 2030. This is alongside other projects like Mterra’s solar-plus-storage project.

Tanay Wind Farm in the Philippines Breaks Ground
Reported June, 2024 – Wind farm in Tanay broke ground on June 4.
The local government of Tanay led the groundbreaking ceremony for the 112 megawatts (MW) Tanay Wind Power Project. This wind farm aims to boost energy reserves in the region.
Details on the Tanay Wind Farm
The Tanay Wind Power Project is a clean energy facility in Rizal Province, Philippines. The project is built at 300 to 600 meters above sea level on hilly properties of the provincial government.
The wind project has a capacity of 112 megawatts, and the estimated annual generation is 252.9 gigawatt hours (GWh). The wind project will be built in barangay San Andres and Cayumbay in Tanay.
The Tanay wind farm is part of Alternergy’s goal of hitting 500 MW by 2026.
The Tanay Wind Project is being developed by Alternergy Holdings Corporation and its subsidiary Alternergy Tanay Wind Corporation (ATWC). The company also attended the groundbreaking ceremony and shared updates about the upcoming wind energy development.
The Tanay Wind Farm’s target completion date is in the 4th quarter of next year. This project will contribute to green energy reserves in the Luzon region.
The Tanay Wind Power Project is part of the state government’s goal of reaching 35% renewable energy in the Philippines by 2030.
The project secured $137.4 million from the Bank of the Philippine Islands and Security Bank.

A project that will also boost the tourism industry in Tanay
Alternergy and the Tanay local government signed a memorandum of agreement and are working together to promote sustainable facilities to support the community.
Alternergy Tanay Wind Corp (ATWC) president Knud Hedeager shared that the wind farm will also drive the tourism industry in Tanay.
“We assure you that we will take care of the local community. The tourism industry in Tanay will be busier come 2026”, he said in the groundbreaking ceremony. The governor of Rizal Province, Nina Ricci Ynares, also added that the wind project will boat the tourism sector of Tanay.
The governor also stated that due to the insufficient energy supply, and the red and yellow alerts by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the wind farm in Tanay will lessen the power outages in the area.
Alternergy is committed to proper operational guidelines per the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Green Energy auction.

The second wind farm in Tanay province
The Tanay Wind Project is the second wind farm in the Rizal region. The first one is Alternergy’s Pililla wind farm, located in Barangay Halayhayin. The Pililla wind farm is a 54MW facility that opened in 2015.
The Pilillia Wind Farm features wind turbines installed on sloping hills over Laguna Bay. The wind farm has 27 wind turbines aligned towards the NW-SE to maximize the incoming October to March Amihan trade winds.
The company has several other projects, including the 64 MW Wind Project in Quezon Province and the 28 MW Solana Solar Project in Bataan.
