ASML is building its second large-scale industrial campus in the Netherlands’ Brainport region with the commencement of a multi-stage development at Brainport Industries Campus North in Eindhoven.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, with the start of construction of a campus that can potentially cover up to 350,000 square meters and accommodate up to 20,000 workplaces.
The development project is meant to create additional capacity for production of ASML, which is planning to grow further in the coming years. This is the second campus of the equipment maker that is located in the Brainport region but remains closely interconnected with other activities in the region.
ASML president and CEO Christophe Fouquet emphasized that the development project will give ASML the needed space and flexibility to continue innovations and meet the growing needs of the global semiconductor industry.
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten joined the groundbreaking ceremony alongside representatives from the government, customers, suppliers, knowledge institutions and regional partners.
First phase to be finished by 2029
The first stage of the BIC North campus is supposed to be completed in 2029 and will accommodate at least 3,000 employees.
The first stage will integrate the production, logistics and office activities within a single industrial campus. Most of the workers will move from the existing ASML facilities.
One of the main components of the first phase will be the new flow factory of ASML, which will apply the next generation of manufacturing technologies for the TWINSCAN systems.
This manufacturing concept allows improving material flows through the manufacturing process and making the production more efficient and scalable without lowering the quality of products.
According to ASML, the flow-factory concept uses some manufacturing technologies that have proved successful in other industries such as automotive and aerospace.
Campus allows for further expansion
The development of the BIC North campus is designed as a phased project, not a single-stage one. In the long run, the campus can potentially accommodate up to 20,000 workplaces, depending on ASML’s future needs.
The development of the new campus gives ASML more opportunities for expanding its manufacturing capacities amid the growth of demand for semiconductor equipment.
ASML has identified the growth of semiconductor industry, including the needs associated with artificial intelligence and other innovative technologies, as the factor that stimulates expansion of the company’s global footprint. The company reported high demand from its customers in the first half of 2026 and stated that its customers are accelerating their capacity expansion programs.
Previously, ASML announced plans to develop its BIC campus in phases with the first workers moving to the new campus in 2028.
Three campuses in Brainport
The BIC North campus will be the second major industrial campus in ASML’s Brainport region footprint.
The future presence of ASML in the region will include three different locations: the company’s headquarters campus located at De Run 1000 in Veldhoven, its current industrial campus at De Run 6000/7000 in Veldhoven and the new BIC North industrial campus in Eindhoven.
The three locations will support ASML’s innovation, manufacturing and corporate activities across the region.
The development of BIC North reflects collaboration between ASML, local and national governments, knowledge institutions and other regional partners.
ASML has worked with municipalities and other authorities to advance the campus development, while infrastructure and planning work has progressed alongside the project. According to ASML’s local project information, the company prepared the site for construction and began initial construction work ahead of the September 8 groundbreaking.
Thus, the new campus will become a significant addition to the semiconductor ecosystem of Brainport Eindhoven, providing ASML with additional manufacturing capacity and room for further expansion.
Additionally, the expansion of semiconductor infrastructure is also accelerating outside Europe. In Arizona, Amkor Technology is advancing a major expansion of its advanced packaging and test campus, with Phase 2 adding approximately 60,000 square meters of cleanroom capacity and taking the total planned investment to approximately $12 billion. The project, like ASML’s BIC North development, reflects the industry’s push to expand high-value semiconductor manufacturing capacity closer to major technology markets.
