McHugh Construction, one of the Midwest’s top commercial builders, has announced the completion of the renovation of Orrington Plaza, Illinois. The lobby, public areas, and outside plaza of Orrington Plaza, Evanston, Illinois’ tallest office skyscraper were all remodeled. Throughout the main and lower-level lobbies, the business refurbished more than 15,000 square feet of space. McHugh also added a new welcome desk and unique metal fins around the elevator core to improve the office’s design look as more visitors return.

The US$1.6 million Renovations of Orrington Plaza also included upgrades to the building’s security, fire safety, and HVAC systems to give tenants a safer, more productive workplace. McHugh updated the outside with a new entry canopy and façade lighting at the Illinois Orrington Plaza.

“We finished all of the work while the building was still occupied. While the pandemic reduced the amount of foot traffic in the lobbies, we were nonetheless considerate of the remaining office tenants. We arranged construction activities around peak hours and provided clear signs for all building tenants and visitors to avoid disrupting their business activity through regular communication with Golub property management,” stated Kate Ivanova, vice president of operations for McHugh Construction.

McHugh and Golub are now working on interior improvements at Prairie Shores, a five-tower apartment complex in Chicago’s Bronzeville district. The architect and interior designer were both from Chicago’s Huntsman Architectural Group. The Rockford IceHogs, a minor league hockey affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks, recently received new locker room facilities from the construction business. McHugh and local partner Cord Construction Co. collaborated on the $650,000 refurbishment, which is part of a wider investment in the 40-year-old BMO Harris Bank Center at 300 Elm Street in downtown Rockford, Illinois. The refurbished locker rooms are over 6,000 square feet in size and include enhanced finishes including bespoke player and coach lockers, new carpeting, and light fixtures.
