Uber India Data Center project has entered the planning stage after Uber confirmed a partnership with Adani Group to develop its first data facility in India. The planned project will strengthen Uber’s technology infrastructure while supporting data processing, artificial intelligence deployment, and local digital operations across one of the company’s fastest-growing markets. Uber chief executive officer Dara Khosrowshahi announced the project after meeting Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad. According to Uber, the facility will support testing and deployment of technologies at scale. In addition, the company expects the data center to become operational later in 2026.

The companies have not officially disclosed the project cost. However, industry analysts estimate the investment could exceed $500 million because hyperscale data centers require advanced cooling systems, high-capacity power infrastructure, and AI-ready computing equipment. The planned development also aligns with Adani Group’s broader push into renewable-powered digital infrastructure projects across India.

The Uber India Data Center project reflects increasing demand for localized data storage and cloud infrastructure in India. Global technology firms continue expanding their regional facilities because India’s data localization policies encourage companies to process and store data within the country. Uber stated that the new facility will help the company build technology products “from India, for the world.” Therefore, the project could support Uber’s global mobility platforms, real-time analytics systems, mapping technologies, and AI-driven transportation services. Adani Group will likely provide the digital infrastructure platform, energy support, and construction expertise for the development. The conglomerate has already expanded aggressively into data centers through AdaniConneX and other digital infrastructure investments. Earlier this year, Adani announced plans to invest about $100 billion in AI-ready data centers and renewable-powered infrastructure by 2035.

Industry observers expect the project to accelerate additional investment in India’s data center construction sector. As a result, contractors, engineering firms, and power infrastructure suppliers could secure new opportunities linked to hyperscale developments.

The Uber India Data Center project could become a key technology testing platform for the company’s future AI applications. Construction experts expect demand for hyperscale facilities to rise sharply during the next decade. Therefore, the Uber-Adani partnership could influence additional international technology investments across India’s expanding digital infrastructure sector.

The Uber India Data Center project mirrors broader growth in Africa’s digital infrastructure market, where governments and private developers continue investing heavily in hyperscale facilities. In Kenya, a similar trend emerged after the government allocated KSh5.2 billion for the construction of a new data center at Konza Technopolis, East Africa’s flagship smart city project. The Konza facility aims to expand cloud computing capacity, support digital transformation, and strengthen regional data processing infrastructure.
