OX2 progresses with the 472 MW onshore wind farm project in Finland

The OX2 472 MW Finland wind project is a pair of onshore wind farms located in Karijoki, Isojoki and Halsua in western Finland, and the offtaker OX2 declined to name at construction start has since been confirmed as Amazon, which contracted the full capacity of both farms. The relationship has since widened to Poland and Sweden.

Where the OX2 472 MW Finland wind project stands now

Honkakangas is the nearer to completion. Destia is delivering both turnkey 400 kV substations, Honkakangas for August 2026 and Rajamäenkylä for August 2027, and turbine transports ran from February to June 2026. Grid capacity is now the constraint across Europe, as Belgium’s €1 billion energy island facility shows.

Project Overview

  • Project Name: OX2 Rajamäenkylä and Honkakangas onshore wind farms
  • Location: Karijoki and Isojoki in South Ostrobothnia and Halsua in Central Ostrobothnia, western Finland
  • Project Value: More than €700 million, committed at final investment decision in April 2025 (OX2)
  • Client or Owner: OX2 AB, which retains ownership and operation, making these its first Finnish farms held rather than divested
  • Offtaker: Amazon, under long term power purchase agreements covering the full output of both farms
  • Key Components: 70 Nordex N175 turbines, 54 units totalling 367 MW at Rajamäenkylä and 16 units totalling about 105 MW at Honkakangas, on 162 metre tubular steel towers with cold climate adaptations and anti icing blade systems at Honkakangas
  • Annual Output: About 1.6 TWh combined, of which Honkakangas accounts for roughly 360 GWh, equivalent to about 73,000 Finnish households
  • Grid Connection: Both farms connect directly to the 400 kV network through turnkey substations
  • Debt Financing: Long term facility from Santander Corporate & Investment Banking
  • Construction Start: 2025, with Honkakangas turbine deliveries transported between February and June 2026
  • Expected Completion: Honkakangas in 2027 and Rajamäenkylä in 2028

OX2’s 472 MW onshore wind projects in Finland

With project completion dates two and three years away, the largest renewable energy investment in Finland by OX2 will be the first to be under its management once complete.

According to OX2, the 367 MW Rajamäenkylä and the 105 MW Honkakangas wind farms will cumulatively produce 1.6 TWh of wind energy once operational. Alongside supplying Finland’s electricity grid, this feat will also be a big win for OX2. The developer will realize growth in energy market sales and its wind energy projects portfolio.

The Honkakangas wind farm will serve more than 73,000 homes annually once connected to the grid while the Rajamäenkylä wind farm will serve around 250,000 homes. The values are relative to a 5,000 KWh consumption rate per household.

Other OX2 renewable projects in Finland

In addition to the two wind energy projects in their construction phases, OX2 is also having other renewable projects in Finland. These include the Jouhteninen and Kannisto onshore wind projects, and the Kantinkulma solar project among others which are currently in their development phases.

Having constructed close to 4 GW of onshore wind power globally, OX2 is one of the leading green energy developers in Europe. According to OX2, their renewable energy projects in Finland and around the globe are “constantly increasing access to renewable energy [and] promoting the transition towards a more sustainable future.
